In "The Quest: From Jesus to the First Christians," airing Tuesday and Wednesday, April 7 and 8, 1998 on PBS, FRONTLINE presents the epic story of the rise of Christianity. Drawing upon new and sometimes controversial historical evidence, the series transports the viewer back 2,000 years to the time and place where Jesus of Nazareth once lived and preached.
The series explores the life of Jesus, but its focus is on the events that occurred after he died. the central characters in the drama are the men and women, mostly anonymous and unknown, whose belief, conviction and martyrdom created a major movement that spread throughout the Roman Empire in the space of only 300 years. Filmed on location in Israel, Jordan, Greece, Turkey, and Italy, "The Quest" challenges familiar assumptions and conventional notions about the origins of Christianity.
In conjunction with "The Quest," FRONTLINE is developing educational materials and a comprehensive Web site.
