He was one of two accountants Madoff hired to help recruit clients. And even in those early years, the '70s, they were raking in investors -- it just grew by word of mouth. Bernard Madoff was delivering consistent returns -- sometimes as high as 20 percent.

By the mid-'80s, Bienes and his partner's cut was reaching upwards of $10 million/year.
