In the News Where Women Are Flogged...April 23, 2009 “Swati women never wore the burqa. Now, the handful of women I see on the streets are all covered.” So often a big story is captured most powerfully in the small human encounters with those living it. That's what correspondent Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has done. In the Swat Valley, where the Taliban now has a fearsome lockhold on one million people (thanks to a recent deal with the government allowing the militants to impose strict Sharia law) she meets two little girls. And they are unafraid to talk to her about what is happening. It's memorable -- watch the full 30 minute report, "Children of the Taliban." No comments COMMENTS | Editors' Notes RSS |
