The VAW-110 suite's feature attraction was the
"leg shaving booth."
Using hot towels and baby oil, two squadron members at a time would shave the legs, and in some cases the pubic areas, of female volunteers. Each shave would take 30 to 45 minutes and would include massaging. A large banner reading "Free Leg
Shaves!" hung from the sliding glass door, which permitted onlookers from the pool area to watch. Other activities were observed during leg shaving. For example, officers from the VR-57 suite reportedly licked
legs to ensure "quality control."
Other reports included nudity, and instances where women
exposed their breasts during leg shaving or wore only
underwear during the procedure. Some pulled up their shorts or underwear during "bikini area" shaves.
No participants claimed to have been forced, but
one female Navy officer and another woman
reported being badgered into taking part.
