Voting for Bush
November 7, 2000
I have decided to cast my vote for George Bush & Dick Cheney, although my "dream ticket" would be Joe Lieberman & Dick Cheney.
I have tried to focus on how each candidate views the role of government in people's lives. In this aspect, I prefer the philosophy or approach of George Bush (e.g., local control, states' rights, trusting people not government, etc.).
Regardless of who is elected President, I am willing to concede that very little is likely to change fundamentally in Washington, D.C., especially not
in the short term. I feel, though, as if the country is in dire need of a psychological change from the damage inflicted by the Bill Clinton & Monica
Lewinsky scandal and the White House fundraising fiasco. Whether it is fair
or not, I am unable to separate Al Gore from the embarrassment of these
events. His silence on the Clinton-Lewinsky matter is still deafening. And,
when Gore claimed there was "no controlling authority" on his Buddhist Temple fundraising, he should have kept quiet!
Frankly, I am somewhat disappointed that I am not more excited or fervent
about my decision to vote for Bush & Cheney. Although Gore & Lieberman got my attention in positives ways from time to time, here at the end, I prefer to see Bush & Cheney leading this country for the next four years.
