orville schell
Schell is a well-known expert on China and the author of eight books on that country including, In the People's Republic, Watch Out for the Foreign Guest, and Discos and Democracy. In 1994, Schell travelled to Tibet and reported on the country's troubled relationship with China for the FRONTLINE documentary, "Red Flag Over Tibet."



andrew nathan
Nathan is professor of political science at Columbia University and chair of the Advisory Committee, Human Rights Watch/Asia. Nathan is the author or co-author of several books on China, most recently, The Great Wall and the Empty Fortress: China's Search for Security.



henry kissinger
He is the former U.S. Secretary of State who secretly went to Beijing in 1972 to help re-open China to the U.S. He recently was hired by the Walt Disney Company to advise on their dealings with China. China warned the Disney Company that the release of its film "Kundun" would hurt the company's chances for expansion into China.



frank wolf
As a U.S. congressman (R-Va.), Wolf has been involved in world human rights issues for years, in particular, religious persecution. In August 1997 Wolf travelled as a tourist to Tibet and with a home video camera and an interpreter, he talked to many Tibetans. His unofficial visit enraged China.



tenzin tethong
Tethong was adviser on the film "Seven Years in Tibet." Tethong formerly was the exiled Dalai Lama's representative in the U.S. and now works for Survivors International, an organization which helps victims of torture .



jamyang norbu
Norbu is a Tibetan exile living in Dharamsala, India. Norbu has written several books on Tibet and is among the minority of Tibetan exiles who are for total independence.



martin scorsese
Scorsese directed "Kundun," a movie scheduled to open Christmas 1997 which is based on an authorized biography of the exiled Dalai Lama. China wouldn't allow the film to be made in Tibet, so Scorsese shot his film mostly in Morocco using many Tibetans as actors.



jon avnet
Avnet directed the 1997 film "Red Corner" starring Richard Gere as an American caught up in the Chinese criminal justice system.



richard gere
Gere is an actor, 'free Tibet' activist and the most famous disciple of the Dalai Lama.



steven seagal
Seagal is an actor who recently was recognised by a Tibetan lama as a reincarnation of the 17th century High Lama Chungdrag Dorje of Palyul Monastery.



adam yauch
Yauch is a convert to Buddhism and his successful rap music group, The Beastie Boys, has held popular Tibetan Freedom Concerts in 1996-97.
