Education Week: "Quality Counts 2002"
Education Week's "Quality Counts 2002" grades states on their standards and accountability measures, compiling in-depth "report cards" on each state. Education Week, an independent journal, has published its "Quality Counts" series since 1997.

American Federation of Teachers: "Making Standards Matter 2001"
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is a labor union that lobbies on behalf of teachers. Its "Making Standards Matter 2001," released in November 2001, is the sixth such report that the AFT has published on state efforts to institute standards-based education systems. The 213-page report has a state-by-state analysis, detailing states' progress on standards, curriculum development, tests, and accountability measures.

"The Nation's Report Card"
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), known as "The Nation's Report Card," is administered to a statistical sample of students across the country in various subject areas, and is widely regarded by educators and policymakers as a trusted gauge of national trends.
