4/8/96Huang  John Huang arranges for South Korean businessman, John K. H. Lee, to come to Washington for what Huang had promised would be dinner with POTUS. In exchange, Lee wrote a $250,000 check from his company, Cheong Am American. Instead of an intimate one-on-one with President, he got a brief meeting wedged into president's attendance at two dinners at the Sheraton Carlton. The $250,000 Choeng Am American check received from Lee would ultimately lead to first press coverage of illegal foreign donations.

July/AugustHuang  Though date is uncertain, either in final week of July or first week of August, Rawlein Soberano met John Huang for lunch at the Mayflower. Soberano had arranged the lunch to solicit Huang's help with a fundraiser for the Asian American Business Roundtable (AABR). According to Soberano, during the lunch, Huang suggested the possibility of funneling money through AABR: "We can give you $300,000 and you can give it back to us later, and you can keep 15% for the organization." Soberano, once he realizes Huang is not kidding, stopped the conversation and both men left the meeting embarrassed.

According to Meddoff, Ickes called him later that day and asked him to destroy the fax. Ickes acknowledges he sent the original fax, but denies he ever instructed Meddoff to destroy it.
