These are translations of some 100 hours of wiretaps and videotaped
surveillance of undercover meetings between Darichev and Pogrebevskij and the
undercover agents, as well as phone conversations with a man named Valerii at
"Jupiter Z," that took place over two years at various locations in Miami and
London. (Note: UI=unintelligible)

UCA: And nuclear too?
AP: Yes.
UCA: Nuclear Warheads? [With... uh... with nuclear warheads?] Uh...
AP: That guy who can (UI)...
AD: This is very important. It's very important because... If it's really
possible to... (UI)... In the world... there are a lot of (UI) in the world
(UI)...Yeah... This is interesting. This is... this may be (UI)... on this we
can make something.
AP: If (UI)... Then... Uh... (UI)...
AD: What if the country... what if the country doesn't... (UI)... Panama
doesn't have the right... or never did... (UI) to send to Panama or (UI... Say,
some smaller... Uh... Uh... Nuclear (UI), if to send to Panama (UI)...
AP: You know, I cannot now (UI)...
(Recording Interrupted & Resumed)
AP: (UI).
AD: (UI)... And nobody wants to... My policy has always been... Uh... live and
let others live too... I don't want to share because I know that if I start to
divide I'll always take for myself the bigger share...
AP: (UI)...
AD: (UI)... If they make counter missiles, they do not make them...
Uh...Nuclear...
AP: (UI)... As far as nuclear is concerned (UI)...
AD: Yes. But the thing is that... this is really something that... that a lot
may be earned...
AP: Let's call it another way. I'll talk to him (UI)... It makes the
equipment that one can put on something... You understand, right?
AD: Yes.
AP: That can be put on tanks or the same missiles, only on the shoulder...
AP: Yeah.
AP: Secret equipment. There is some that can be hung on a tank... that goes
through, say... Uh... fifteen meters... and tons (UI)...
AD: Like what? Like... Uh... Nuclear?
AP: I don't know. I don't understand about it...
AD: Like... Uh... Like a mushroom? (UI)...
UCA: (UI)...
AD: [You missed something.] I... Tony understands Russian well, but
sometimes... He... Uh...
UCA: Okay.
AD: Okay.
AP: (UI).
AD: (UI)... [In Kiev... Uh... there is a large military... Uh... complex that
manufactures... Uh... (UI)...The person that he talked to (UI)... they can
provide... Uh... small... Uh... small nuclear (UI)...] All this is referred to
the missiles, that... that can be... Uh... I do not speak about those big
missiles...

Undercover Agent (UCA)
AD: Now what is your orientation (UI) what?
UCA: Ah, you mean, of course, the sum of money?
AD: No not at all. The quantity...
UCA: (UI)
AD: How much and what, the main item, you said, is "strela," "eegla?"
UCA: No (UI) if we can get "Eegla" for this price.
AD: But, it's the same product, I told you, Sasha...
UCA: Yes, but you said that...
AD: Really, I tell you, people everywhere call me stupid blaming me that I
can't explain to the clients. I say, I explain to them...
UCA: Yes, you explained me that this one is the new version and that you will
send an expert to help to train people...
AD: Yes, yes, yes. This is obligatory.
UCA: That's it. If this product is a new one and is better.
AD: Yes. There are even newer. You see, Sasha, they are all the same
(Laughing). (Voices overlap) O.K.
UCA: Now, the quantity. There will be a letter for $3,000,000 that's it.
AD: O.K. So we should be oriented on this sum?
UCA: Yes, we are oriented on this sum...
AD: And then, we are going to divide the shipment by lots, yes?
UCA: Yes, the next, the next lot, they already [...] ask about but we will
decide later.
AP: Grenade launchers? No?
UCA: I don't know. The grenade launchers do the same that the (UI) right?
AP: Right, it's about what you prefer. It cost $30,000 for 8 missiles, so
30,000 by 8 gives about 3,500 per missile.
UCA: (UI)
AP: No, no for the same money...
AD: You need for this, a training...
UCA: No, it's not the right thing to do. Because, if for this one does the
same work that, that one and it's $10,000 more expensive...
AD: It doesn't make sense?
UCA: It doesn't make sense.
AD: It's up to you. The client is the master. No, it's absolutely that's it,
so...
UCA: We will be oriented on this item.
AP: So , we are going to work on these two items (UI)?
AD: You see, if we have a good client (UI)
UCA: (UI) If you give us (UI) there is no problem, just no to mix it up. This
is the first (UI) and then later.
AP: (UI) "Djeegit"?
AD: No, "Djeegit", No.
AP: (UI)
AD: No.
UCA: Yes, we also need to know exactly the sizes.
AD: The dimensions, yes. We will immediately...
UCA: Each set has to...
AP: You will get the weight, quantity, the number of sets in each
container...
AD: The volume.
AP: The volume of the containers, the packages, everything.
UCA: And if it doesn't make sense to use containers, then...
AP: (UI) In Moscow...
UCA: No, I mean, if there is not enough goods to fill the container, there is
no reason to send the merchandise in containers. Maybe we can do it
differently (voices overlap) by separate boxes?
AD: Containers are more convenient. (Voices overlap)
AP: Yes, but if you are going to receive here boxes on which is written
"Firearms" from Soviet Union...
UCA: No, the boxes have to be inside of... (UI) here. We have smaller
containers, containers ...(voices overlap)
AP; These are 50-90 KG containers. They are long.
UCA: Are they sealed, yes?
AP: Maybe, yes.
UCA: They can be sealed, yes?
AP: I just don't know about (voices overlap).
UCA: They are more convenient, because you can't immediately load them on the
truck and...
AP: O.K., I got it. We will answer to these questions. Either we will put 20
poxes in a (UI) container or 25 boxes in (UI) containers. All that will depend
on the (UI)...
UCA: O.K.
AD: Fine, this is settled.
UCA: Now, we agreed upon the video. Now, what about the project NO2?
AD: I told you (UI) and it's why, Sasha...
UCA: (UI) and you will (voices overlap), yes? It will be on a separate
document?
AD: It's feasible. But it will be more complicated to accomplish. It's all I
can tell you. It's feasible, but...
