The USS Enterprise
FRONTLINE's documentary "The Navy Blues" was filmed on the USS ENTERPRISE, America's largest aircraft carrier and the forward thrust of our naval strategy.

Two of the documentary's central characters flew the planes of the Enterprise:

  • Lieutenant Kara Hultgreen, one of the first women combat aircraft carrier pilots, died when her F-14 jet crashed in a 1994 accident.

  • Commander Robert Stumpf, a Gulf War fighter pilot, flew the F/A-18 Hornet as commander of The Blue Angels Demonstration Squadron.
