This paper proposes that whatever forces increase impulsivity, irritability, create paranoia, diminish judgment and curtail the recognition of pain in the self and others will enhance violence in a human being. Lewis presents evidence that maltreatment has all of these effects.

The author summarizes the evolution of parenting standards and argues that it's time to throw away the existing paradigm of parenting, which is children are the property of their biological parents. He details the steps it will take for society to accept a new social value--parenthood is a privilege.

All God's Children: The Bosket Family and the American Tradition of Violence

Willie Bosket, the protagonist of this book, was 15 when he was convicted of a double murder. He reputedly is the most dangerous man held in the New York state prison system.
