Originally from North Dakota, Shelley moved to Edenton with her husband
because his parents lived in the area. Prior to working at Little Rascals, she
worked as a cashier in a department store, and in a supermarket. She started
at Little Rascals in 1987, and had worked there two years when she was
arrested. She was in charge of the day care's four and five year-old children.
In late September 1989, Shelley was charged with multiple counts of child
sexual abuse and spent one month in jail. She was released after making her
bond of $375,000 and moved to the countryside near Edenton with her husband and
two daughters to await trial. In October1996 her bond was reduced to nothing,
and two months later all charges against her were dropped.
Shelley is studying at the community college in Edenton and plans to either go
into nursing or become a paralegal. Her daughters, April and Amanda, are now
14 and 21. Amanda is in school with Betsy and Bob's daughter, Laura. Shelley's
husband, Romer, is training to be an railroad engineer.
