First broadcast in April 1989, "The Shakespeare Mystery"
was seen by an audience of well over five million and roused hundreds of viewers to call or write FRONTLINE.
Here are a few of the more interesting letters, beginning with one from William M. Murphy, a retired English professor. Along with his letter, Professor Murphy enclosed his article written for a 1964 Union College Symposium, "Thirty Six Plays in Search of an Author."
Also worth noting is Audrey J. Monahan's letter to us (she slightly revised it for Web site publication),
and, FRONTLINE correspondent Al Austin's response to Ms. Monahan's original letter.
