Hello Everyone on the Learning Tools!
I am a Special Education Teacher. My kids respond to these simulations; they don't resond to the regular academia worksheets.
Today (9-18-09), I had a Godparent who questioned why I would have a student on PBSKIDS.com; DUH!? From work and research within my doctorate at NOVA, I can tell you, if we don't embrace these kids at their level, then, we don't connect! I have alternative assessment students that can understand the Internet; they can't understand me in a regular lesson that has been provided by Scott-Foresman on phomenics. Maybe, this is the first objective that has made sense and that could actually reach these students. Is that wrong? I think not. After all, communication is a powerful tool. If they can communicate through this media; can anyone see a problem? Here, they can miracuously read!
In conclusion, I am for whatever it takes to help my students to begin to understand the WORLD/GLOBAL community around them. I feel that we, as educators, have set limits around ourselves, that excludes moving forward into the GLOBAL communications era. Even though we have set these limits, those limits will not apply to this new generation! Let's teach where we need to teach.
