Our correspondent Douglas Rushkoff has been writing about the Internet for more than 15 years. In that time, he has been one of the foremost observers of issues related to technology, the media and popular culture. You can read his blog, learn more about his latest book, Life Incorporated: How the World Became A Corporation and How To Take It Back, and listen to his new weekly radio show, The Media Squat, on his website.

How did Doug end up on Digital Nation? In this interview, he shares his thoughts on the project and what he hopes it will accomplish. Like our producer Rachel, Doug became a parent in the digital age: he has made a conscious effort to balance his daughter's exposure to technology with the value of an unplugged life. Doug also describes his battle with a daily barrage of e-mail messages, and explains how he copes.

Doug's assessment of the Internet's promise and power has evolved substantially over the years, and his views will surely continue to transform over the course of Digital Nation. Here, he offers his thoughts on what the Internet is today and the role it plays in our lives.
